VALVE WORK: CATEGORIES OF VALVES

Because of the different machines existing in the industry and their characteristics, we cannot speak of a single universal valve design, but in the valves we find types of numbers valves which respond to nine different categories classified as: gate valves, globe valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, tightening valves, diaphragm valves, plug valves, check valves and, Lastly, the relief valves. All of these categories are part of the valves and depending on the characteristics of the industry, we will use one or the other. But let's take a closer look at the first three categories, analyzing their characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.

Gate valves

gate valves They are multi-turn, the inlet and outlet orifice are closed with a vertical flat-faced disc that slides at right angles over the valve seat. It is especially recommended for those ducts that have to be opened or closed completely without throttling. They have minimal resistance to the circulation of liquids or gases and are placed in rarely used ducts. It's used in the valve from the oil and petroleum industry, gas, air, semi-liquid pastes or thick liquids, corrosive, non-condensable liquids and steam. Its closure is hermetic and has a low cost, although it requires a lot of force to operate it and it must be covered or closed completely.

Globe valves

globe valves They have multiple turns, where the closure is given by means of a disc or plug that cuts off the passage of the fluid or gas in a seat that is usually located parallel to the conduit or pipe. It is applied in the valves in general, for liquids, vapors, gases, corrosives and semi-liquid pastes. It is perfect for frequent use and allows you to precisely control the passage of liquids or gases. As a disadvantage we find that its cost is higher.

Male valves

plug valves They are quarter-turn and control circulation using a cylindrical or conical male. Its use is recommended in the valve of the industry in general, in packaging machinery for semi-liquid pastes, liquids, vapors, gases and corrosive products. These types of valves have a low cost and a high capacity, their closure is hermetic and their operation is very fast.
