Types of bluing

Hot bluing, on the other hand, is obtained after a complex and laborious procedure but the result it achieves is of high quality. They are two techniques used in precision machining, which have different types of purposes.
Blued by immersion and blued by heating
To do the bluing of the precision machining, two techniques can be carried out, on the one hand bluing by immersion and on the other hand bluing by heating. Everything will depend on what the purpose of this procedure will be.
Immersion bluing: The pieces, in this case, are immersed in a mixture of potassium nitrate and sodium nitrate at temperatures between 310 and 350 degrees and then washed with hot soap. The pieces take on a bluish color.
Blueing by heating: It is carried out in ovens at a temperature of 400 degrees and to start the process the metal parts need to be thoroughly cleaned. They are then covered with a 25% asphalt solution or an oil-in-gasoline varnish solution. Then the metal pieces are placed on an iron mesh and placed in the oven for about 10 minutes.
When is this type of finish applied?
In the precision machining, this finish is carried out when the steel does not have a large amount of carbon, to protect it from corrosion and rust in a controlled manner.
